How to Make Confident Decisions and Move Forward

Stop Letting Indecision Steal Your Life
Make Confident Decisions and Move Forward

You know that moment where you’ve been staring at a menu for ten minutes and still don’t know what you want to eat?
Multiply that by your career, relationships, money, and dreams … and that’s what indecision can do to your life.

Here’s the truth most people don’t want to hear:
Indecision is one of the most subtle — and destructive — forms of self-sabotage we engage in today.

It feels harmless. It feels safe. It even feels “wise” to weigh all your options before you make a choice. But in reality?

Indecision is costing you time, energy, opportunities, and momentum.

I’ve watched people lose years of their lives waiting for clarity to magically appear. But I’ve also seen how quickly things change when they learn how to make decisions fast, trust themselves, and move forward with confidence.

Let’s talk about why we get stuck, how to break free, and why even the “wrong” decision is often better than no decision at all.

Why We Stay Stuck in Indecision

If you’ve ever felt trapped in a swirl of “should I … or shouldn’t I?” you’re not alone.
The human brain loves the safety of indecision. Here’s why:

  • We think there’s a right or wrong choice. Your brain says, “If I pick wrong, I’ll regret it forever.” So it stalls.

  • Confusion feels easier than courage. It’s more comfortable to stay in the “I don’t know” zone than to risk discomfort or failure.

  • We’re addicted to certainty. We want guarantees — and life just doesn’t work that way.

But here’s the kicker:
Your success will come at the speed of your decision-making.

The longer you linger in indecision, the more momentum you lose.

Why “Wrong” Decisions Are Better Than No Decision

When you make a decision — any decision — you create movement. You give yourself three possible outcomes:

  1. Success — Which, by the way, is something you define.

  2. Failure — Which isn’t bad at all, because both success and failure mean progress.

  3. Indecision — Which equals stagnation, inaction, and confusion.

Think about it:
When you make a decision, even if it turns out differently than expected, you’ve learned something valuable. That knowledge moves you forward. But when you sit in indecision, nothing happens. Success and failure are both active action, movement.  With indecision we may think we’re taking action because we’re making lists, weighing out the option, praying and thinking. We feel like we’re taking action but the truth, it’s passive action. Not moving the needle at all. We’re spinning and missing opportunities for growth and movement.

Action creates clarity. Indecision creates nothing.

The 50/50 Rule for Decision Making

One of my favorite tools is the 50/50 rule:

No matter what you choose, life will be 50% positive and 50% challenging. There’s no perfect option that leads to 100% happiness.

When you accept that truth, decisions become easier.
If you could have success either way, which path do you choose?

Make decisions from confidence, trust, and abundance — not fear and scarcity.

How Faith Can Be Used Against You (and How to Flip It)

If you’re someone who believes in God, the Spirit, or a higher power, you may have been taught to “wait for a clear answer” before making big decisions.
While spiritual guidance is powerful, it can also become a trap when you use it to justify endless waiting.

Here is a truth that will free you:
Any decision you made in the past was the right decision.

You were doing the best you could with the knowledge you had at the time. And clearly, you’ve made it this far — which means you’ve been guided and protected along the way.

You’re not going to die until it’s your time. So stop waiting for a lightning bolt of confirmation. Make your choice and trust that your faith will guide you through it. It you are doing something because you feel ‘called’ or ‘inspired’ that adds a level of heaviness. Making it even harder. Yes, we feel prompted, inspired and guided but we also do things because we want to or it was what we decided was the right thing in the moment.

Why Pros and Cons Lists Can Keep You Stuck

Sure, pros and cons lists can feel helpful… but they also give too much weight to “facts” without considering your inner power to create your own reality.

When you believe in abundance and your ability to figure things out, you don’t have to wait for the perfect stack of pros to outweigh the cons. You make the decision from personal power.

No matter what you decide, make that decision right.

The Secret Ingredient: Your Relationship With Yourself

Confident decision-making starts with one thing: trusting yourself.

When you know you’ll have your own back no matter what happens, indecision loses its grip.

  • You’ll try new things, even if they’re hard.

  • You’ll keep growing, no matter the outcome.

  • You’ll believe that abundance is always available.

If you don’t yet have that kind of relationship with yourself, coaching can help you build it. When you deeply trust yourself, your decision-making becomes quick, confident, and clear.

Reframing the Past to Empower Your Future

Indecision often comes from dragging the weight of past challenges into your present choices.

But here’s the thing:
Your brain rewires based on experience. If you clean up the emotional drama around your past, you free yourself to make better decisions now.

Bring the wisdom from your past with you. Leave the shame and regret behind.

Focus on the Future — Not the Past

When I ask clients what they want to do next, they often start telling me who they’ve been or what they’ve done. But your past doesn’t get to define you.

Your brain might crave evidence before taking action, but evidence isn’t required. The question is:

What do you want to create from here forward?

Create a Better Narrative

The bigger you can think, the more amazing your life becomes. That requires imagination — and the willingness to consider possibilities you haven’t yet thought of.

Ask yourself:

  • What if there is a way?

  • What’s the choice I’m not even considering?

When you’re stuck, it’s often because you’re playing small. Expand your thinking, dream bigger, and take one small step toward that bigger vision today.

Let’s Make This Practical

Here’s your quick action plan to break free from indecision:

  1. Decide faster. Give yourself a deadline — minutes for small things, days for big things.

  2. Drop the idea of “right” and “wrong.” Choose the option you like best and move forward.

  3. Accept the 50/50 reality. There is no perfect path — just the one you commit to.

  4. Build trust with yourself. Remind yourself: “I’ve got me, no matter what.”

  5. Future-focus your thinking. Let go of past evidence and choose based on who you’re becoming.

Indecision can feel safe — but it’s actually stealing your dreams.
Every moment you spend in “I don’t know” is a moment you could be building something incredible.

The good news? You can learn to make confident, fast decisions starting now.
